Slower days

Life for us is rarely slow, despite how it might look on my blog.  Thankfully the school holidays break up our usual home school/distance education routine.  During the term our mornings are taken up with maths leaflets, spelling words, satellite lessons and the general juggle of life.

Instead of school, for the last two weeks our time has been taken up with early morning trips to the horses.

Reading has been high on my list of things to do.  Alphabet Family Journal is a magazine that actually feels more like a book.   The thick pages are full of real stories and creative photography and the whole package feels simplified and refreshingly un-styled.   Thanks Luisa for my special copy.

We have packed up chops, soup and bread and headed to the paddock to cut firewood.  Actually, the big people cut firewood while the little people played on tree stumps that become imaginary boats and planes while poking sticks in the fire and daydreaming.

Some mornings we have cooked and then lingered just a little longer over morning tea.

The rather unruly vegetable garden has finally had some proper attention.

Sheep work has been in full swing which has meant plenty of warm food and thermoses to keep the workers fuelled in this cold weather.

Farewell school holidays, you will be missed!

Happy Sunday friends x

I like to think that the lovely thing about your home being your workplace, jane, is that even when the firewood and horses and shearers are right on your doorstep, you can still linger just a little over a cup of tea and slice of cake, and maybe even sneak in a page or two before you head back out to it… i know farm work is hard work, but don't spoil my little fantasy of those peaceful perfect moments!

I like your little fence in the garden. It's always good to slow down to recharge the batteries and it looks as though you're doing it the right way. Beautiful colours in your first photo.

Thanks Anne. When Mum visited London, the Chelsea Flower Show and Paris recently she saw a lot of little fences in the gardens she visited. So, she made this fence in our garden just for fun with my children. She used fruit tree prunings and asparagus fronds! It is lovely and a nice reminder of Mum when we are in the garden x

Jane, this is such a beautiful post. The scenes you have depicted really do give a sense of less urgency. Visits to your blog really brighten my day and make me think of home – thank you.

I love seeing your horses Jane. Sometimes when I flick back through my own blog I realise how much more peaceful my life sounds compared to the craziness that it actually usually is! But I guess when I write I don't really want to right how mad the week has been, I'd rather just write down the highlights. Most of the time anyway 🙂
What kind of sheep do you run?
    Your cooking always looks amazing!

Thanks Sarah, I figure no one really wants to read about my dirty floors & washing pile either! It is good to look at the positive things, it helps to make me grateful. We have Merino sheep x
