Life in the winter light

?>

Our landscape has changed so much in the past few weeks.  The earth is damp and muddy and the grass is
green and dripping with moisture.

The days are short and the nights are long and dark.

Some days the winter sun is dazzlingly bright and on other days the sun barely appears at all.

Of course, any change in the season is always reflected in our food.  There has been plenty of fires and outdoor cooking.  I will find any excuse to light a fire at the moment and wood collecting is my favourite exercise.

We have had one heavy fog which completely transformed our normally vast horizons and open paddocks into dark and mysterious bushland, just for a while.

In the vegetable garden there is broccoli, cabbage, kale, lettuce, Asian greens, capsicum and every variety of weed.

Today I will leave you with some links, just because it is cold and wet outside and extra links are always fun on Sunday.

I have been experimenting with this recipe for sourdough pita bread.  A great one to try if you are that way inclined.

One of the best parts of our hour long drive to town is getting some uninterrupted time to listen to new music.  This song is new to my ears.

Blankets are also on my mind.  I quite like the look of this one.

Like a lot of people out there in blog land I am reading this magazine and this one and also wondering how I might be able to justify buying this cookbook.

What are you reading?  Or listening to?

Has the light changed again at your place?

Happy Sunday friends.

That foggy photo took my breath away Jane – your landscape certainly does change with a little fog and some greenery! I'm so glad you're getting some green growing. It's been a gloomy, rainy day here today, which has been perfect for drinking lots of tea and a getting some knitting and writing done.

    Stay warm!

Look at that green. It's glorious. I am a fan of LunchLady and am diving deep into Womankind. Fete is too frippy for me, though I did love it when it first came out. Speaking of frippy, but so beautiful photographed and collated is the latest Amy Butler book Blossom. I have put it on the wish list rather than buying it, but if I stopped buying magazines, I could just have put the last couple of month's worth of mag purchases toward it.

Thanks for the reading suggestions Katie. Please be assured that my life doesn't look like Fete magazine but I do love the simple, elegant styling 🙂

What a different landscape in the fog!
As we approach the longest day in England, everywhere around here looks lush and green with the combination of rain and sunshine. Sunny today. Hurrah!

Isn't amazing how the landscape changes with the fog?! It's the same here – sometimes you can't see the sea at all. That cookery book is definitely worth getting. I proof-read it! The recipes are fabulous and she writes passionately about her baking. Here, we're waiting for summer to arrive – it's been cool and wet and we're longing for sunshiny days. I've recently found a great new music artist – Christine and the Queens (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs40yxHjTxQ) – fabulous choreography too. Lovely post, as always, Jane. Sam x

Wow Sam…I am totally amazed that here I am on the other side of the globe and out of a million books I could have chosen you just happen to have proof-read that one. Surely that is a sign that I need it on my shelf! Thank you for the music tip too! x

Thank you Jan, it is not 100% idyllic but we are lucky enough to have plenty of open space and freedom.

Lovely photos!! Graziher is a good magazine and about the only one I can read cover to cover. You should never have to question whether or not to buy a cookbook. Buy them all 😜 Keep up the great work

I'm constantly scrutinising the light here, as we've only been here six months it's all still new, I don't where it falls at different times. Now it all changes again as of yesterday and we go backwards…or is that forwards.
Thanks for The Broods link, I don't know them but am always on the hunt for new music. I've been listening to Meg Mac this week. I''ve been a bit slow but I got there, and she's great 🙂
