A welcome winter break

?>

I am sure I don’t have to tell many of you about the joy that school holidays bring to the home.  Having the freedom to set our own tempo each day is sheer relief.

As a family we are staying home these holidays which suits me fine.   This mini caravan is new to my collection and although we aren’t travelling anywhere, it reminds of holidays, minus the packing up and organisation.

For me, there is time to cook hearty meals, catch up on some long overdue jobs and help out around the property when I can.  It has been freezing cold with fog and the occasional rainy day which has been perfect weather for baking and cuddling warm loaves.

For the kids there has been time to help out with sheep work in the paddock or the yards.

I do rave on about the light a lot but I cannot get over how gentle and beautiful the winter light is.

In other news, it is rather thrilling to see some of my recipes and photos featured once again in the winter edition of Graziher magazine.  Seeing my photos and words in glossy print really does feel quite surreal, thank you for the opportunity Claire.  It is very exciting to see this magazine becoming so popular.

Are you on school holidays I wonder?

Are you baking and staying warm?

What could be better than a Friday, in the middle of the holidays.

Jane x

Congratulations on your magazine article Jane. It is truly a wonderful feeling to have your work accepted by a magazine!

That miniature caravan is so cute – it make me want a collection of them. I love the photos of your gorgeous woolly sheep with their thick winter coats on. And I noticed the collection of ear tags on your little boy's hat too!

I don't think it's as cold here as it has been for you, although we have had the fire going during the day some days. Keep warm!

We are having a quiet "at home" holiday here too. I think it's good for all concerned to just be at home and do as little as possible. Enjoy what's left 🙂

Mmm you guys are making me want some damper! I wouldn't say we are too cold here on the central east coast. But a few "cold" days here are cause to get every coat you ever owned out of the cupboard to wear, just so you can get the use out of it before the heat returns!

Gorgeous light… Love the photo of you hugging your bread. I'm glad life is good – a change in the rhythm of our days when the children are on holiday is always welcome here. If I was putting together a magazine, I'd be snapping up your words and pictures too 🙂 Sam x

How exciting to have your photos and recipes in a magazine.
It feels odd to see you wrapped up against the cold as I sit here with the sun streaming through the window! Now my life is no longer ruled by school terms, I rather miss the change in tempo that came with the holidays, though I don't miss the school run. Enjoy the holidays.

I'd love to cuddle those lovely warm loaves too Jane – then eat them!
I saw an interview with Claire on Landline (I think?) I think what she's done with her mag is amazing, especially for someone so young. Will def check put Winter edition now.
Cold but beautiful blue skies here x

Thanks Kylie, yes Claire was on Landline. It is lovely to see farming/rural women portrayed in a positive but real way…not too much styling or perfection. So good to hear from you x

I agree, always lovely to see a snippet of the lovely lady behind the words Jane.
I also agree about the light, gentle. That's a perfect description of winter light. I feel it changing and I'm sure it won't be long before the harshness of the summer light is above us, but now, yep, that soft gentle light. Can't get enough of it.
