I think you will understand what I mean when I say love often originates in the kitchen.ย From a simple cup of tea, a nourishing weekday breakfast or more elaborate baking projects, good food makes us all feel loved.
While we are talking love, on Valentineโs Day supermarket red roses and smiling soft toys are really not my thing.
However, when I discovered our kitchen almost completely covered in heart shaped sticky notes I had to smile and count my lucky stars.ย Theses hearts then transformed into a spontaneous artwork above our coffee machine.ย Who would have thought a $3.00 packet of sticky notes could create so much fun and love.
Candied fennel seed fromย Herbie’sย were also a gift from my love. ย What is not to love about a man who knows his way around the spice section and isn’t afraid to buy something different?
Few things fill the kitchen with love more than a batch of homemade biscuits.ย ย I do not claim to bake super healthy biscuits but I am happy knowing they contain the basic ingredients of proper butter, flour, sugar, eggs from our chooks, and homemade vanilla extract.ย ย A teaspoon or two of cocoa or a handful of sultanas helps to keep things interesting.
Are you feeling a little love in your kitchen?
What are you cooking or loving at the moment?
Happy weekend friends x

The Desert Echo
Oh the hearts are really sweet! It's nice to have some romance without it being commercialised, it's kind if gross to see so many desperate guys lining up for supermarket flowers on valentines morning, kind of missing the point.
Jane S
Exactly! Thanks for calling in.
ChopinandMysaucepan
Dear Jane,
Those beautiful hearts in your kitchen says so much more than a bunch of expensive red roses.
Jane S
Thank you, so true!
cityhippyfarmgirl
imported supermarket roses and 'cuddly' teddy bears… pffft. Your little corner is much nicer Jane, so much nicer.
And totally agree with you about the biscuits. Mine aren't crazy healthy either BUT, they don't come in a packet, it's not full of palm oil and they don't food miles to the moon and back.
Jane S
Thanks Brydie, I would love to call into your place for a biscuit and a cuppa one day x
Fiona
Your photography is amazing as always Jane. Love the baking, the biscuits and of course the hearts. Must show my husband!

This morning I was inspired to make some cup cakes at the last minute for one of my beautiful grand daughters. Well it's her BD and I knew she and her sisters would love to see pink cupcakes with a few sparkly toppings.. As it was they all came in to my kitchen as I was finishing them and immediately pulled up chairs….smiling madly! Food definitely spells love. The cupcakes helped the sisters too when the lucky one got a present!
Love the hearts, saying love so simply too Jane!. xox
Jane S
Oh Annie, pink cupcakes with those beautiful girls sounds just perfect x

Do you have any plans for the candied fennel seeds? I have never come across them before!

Thanks Kate, the seeds have been yummy so far scattered through biscuit dough. We haven't tested it yet but there are plans in place to scatter some over some vanilla icecream too x

Jane S
Thanks e, your comment really made me smile tonight, you are very kind! x
Anne
Who wants supermarket roses when you can have candied fennel seeds and hearts fluttering up your kitchen wall. Much, much better. As are home made biscuits.
You have a mighty rolling pin leaning against your wall and a pretty serious coffee maker too. Wonderful photos as ever Jane.
Jane S
Thanks Anne, you have just reminded me that Terry purchased that hefty rolling pin too! If a man is going to buy a rolling pin is has to be a big sturdy one, right?! The coffee machine was a serious investment and at around 9am everyday the coffee is serious business at our house. Sending you a virtual homemade biscuits with love!
Sarah Jane

Have a happy week!
