Out and about in the bush

?>

Life is jam-packed.  Some exciting plans are on the horizon.  We are preparing for spring and a possible escape to the beach before the hot weather arrives.  There are busy times ahead on the farm and the school year is rushing by.

For me the best way to handle the hectic rhythm of life is to make time to get out and about.  Fresh
air and the wide open spaces help to reset the mind and remind me of everything I am grateful for.

I kept one eye firmly on the horizon while I quickly took this photo, waiting for the father emu to return to his sparse nest.

Sunrise through one of our apple trees.  It was -4°C when I took this photo which is about as cold as it gets in our part of the world.

The lonely, parched skull of a feral pig resting in the red dirt.

Early morning olive tree shadows on the woolshed.

At a recent family engagement party most people rolled up to the community hall in utes and four wheel drives to join the celebration.  One outback character and his lovely wife made an understated entrance in this big machine and nobody thought anything of it.  Another reminder that we do live in a unique part of the world.

I hope you are getting out and about!

Happy Sunday to you.

More good things for us to look at. Those emu eggs look pretty amazing; I didn't realise the males incubated the eggs. Who rears the young – mother or father?
I hope there was a big parking area at the community hall.

Thanks Anne. Yes, the male incubates the eggs and rears the young I believe. Good idea isn't it? Miles of parking at the community hall, quite literally! x

beind outdoors and getting fresh air is so important for me to, jane – working in an office all week, it is definitely by 're-set' button. it would be wondrous to have your space as well.

Please tell me you picked up that pig skull and took it home Jane? Such a beautiful, beautiful thing.
I remember chasing emus in the ute along the fence line – they are hilarious when they run, aren't they…

What a lovely outback post and a reminder that I need to get out more, even tough it is cold. I need to get to the centre of Australia or at least teh Flinders Ranges for some reality time. Might go and check that camper trailer.

Two of our favourite books round these parts, Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu. I think I've read them both nonstop for the past 8 years. Loving all these pictures Jane and the fact that our worlds (despite being in the same state) are so, so different.

I'm determined to get out and about (just around our farm) with the camera this afternoon. It feels as if Winter is leaving us in our part of the country and I want to get some photos before this glorious golden light leaves….it's been quite a while since I indulged in a "camera" walk and your post has inspired me to do so!

    Life's nutty here too!
