Right now my world is engulfed in shades of red, brown and orange with the occasional sprinkle of green. The summer sun is dazzling and almost everything is covered in fine red dust.
Bright work shirts inject colour into our day no matter what farm jobs we are tackling. I have come to the conclusion that brightly coloured, long sleeved shirts do far more than just protect us from the sun and scrapes and scratches. They also give us a tiny sparkle and sometimes in the heat and dust any sparkle is welcome.
A powdery road, shimmering sky and an endless horizon.
A richly coloured, complacent cow.
Our sheep are resilient creatures, even their wool cannot escape from being tinged with dust.
An enormous, freshly cleaned out dam with a tiny girl right at the bottom, just waiting for rain.
Closer to the house, vibrant colours picked straight from the garden.
What colours are you seeing in your world today? I hope they are pretty.
Wishing you a happy Friday and a lovely weekend ahead.

Gorgeous Jane… I hope you are getting some of this rain that we have been seeing!? It's quite tropical here lately, with many storms late afternoon. I took a beautiful shot from our front verandah last night, very colourful! It's on my FB page if you want to see the colours I'm seeing xo PS Happy new year lovely lady.

I saw your beautiful FB photo Lizzy, I imagine this steamy weather is unusual for Canberra? No rain yet although it feels very close. Wishing you a lovely weekend x
Joolz
South Australia – grey skies with a lot of rain coming in the next few days. I hope you get some very soon.
Cheers – Joolz xx
Jane S
Thanks Joolz, we all need it don't we!

We are in the cold grip of winter where I am. The color in my world is the beautiful sunset through our woods each evening. In 20 years I have never tired of the wonder of it each day.
Jane S
Those woods sound amazing! Thank you for calling in.

Beautiful images, Jane! Just lovely. The colours I am seeing are patchwork fields of long golden grass, shimmering green poplars, pines and gums and a little pop of pink from the crepe myrtle down by the front gate which has just started to flower. Have a lovely weekend and wishing you all the rain you need.
Jane S
The colour in your world sounds amazing Kate…thank you for calling in.

I am glad you are finding a bit of colour and things to make your day sparkle. There is beauty in the dry even though it would be nice if it wasn't. Those sheep look like the exact reason that we used to call them rocks when traveling south into NSW, except those sheep looked like granite boulders not ant hills. Beautiful photos. We have blue back after a few days of grey so I guess that means the weather is being sucked into a possible tropical low/ cyclone they are predicting to form this weekend and to maybe be causing havoc early next week. I don't mind though because I know the cyclones bring the rain for everyone.
Jane S
I agree, there is beauty in the dry…although it can be difficult at times! Stay safe in those cyclones, I always appreciate your thoughtful comments 🙂

I hope to travel with the family to your part of Oz one day. It's something I never experienced in my whole life growing up here. We live in the Snowy Mountains and thankfully it has been raining every afternoon after a hot day. I've been foraging ruby wild cherry plums and reddish crabapples. Your red dusty landscape is astonishing to me.
Jane S
Thanks Zena! Your foraging sounds lovely!

What a gorgeous post Jane. Nothing like a lovely new dam waiting to fill. I can see the colour of rain on the radar, hoping that it comes this way soon.
Jane S
Thank you Francesca, it is now raining as I type 🙂
Kate @ Kate Writes
Beautiful photos Jane. I know our outback colours are beautiful but I must confess that I have been thinking a little of white sand and blue sparkling water this week…
I hope that dam gets some water in it soon xx
Jane S
I hear you Kate…loud and clear x
Cheryl
WOW , I've done a lot of travelling through Australia, that is one bone dry dam! I hope y'all get rain soon.
Jane S
Thank you Cheryl, perhaps this post started something, it has been raining steadily since last night 🙂
Zara
I hope that dam is soon filled. We has some lovely heavy rain here in town this afternoon so I hope you got some of it to.
x
Jane S
Thanks Zara…rain on the roof right now! x

look at all your produce jane..i'm so impressed that you manage to grow so much in such a harsh climate..mind you there is beauty in the red dry vastness of it..but even better when the rains come and refresh everything and settle the dust..x
Jane S
Thank you Jane…I am often surprised at the resilience of vegetables and fruit trees too. I have been lucky to have a reasonable water supply, even though the paddocks are very dry x
Sarah @ Chantille Fleur
I really enjoyed seeing pictures of your cattle and sheep Jane! Sheep are just the best, aren't they? Although yours look vastly different to my self-shedding Dorpers 🙂 Your property is beautiful. Hope that dam gets filled for you soon!

Thanks so much Sarah. We have had 50mm since I wrote this post, very welcome indeed!

I love the colours and the brightness of your January. I've just seen your rainy picture on twitter – rain and redness! Over here it feels grey though the sky is a brilliant blue.
Jane S
Thanks Anne…yes one extreme to the other isn't it!

Hey Jane .. magic post as usual. Love the colours. We thankfully don't have the dust problem, but as we have about 600 pine trees when the pollen from these is airborne our 2 plump sheep are green tinged! LOL
Jane S
How funny Julie…green sheep!
Marian@The Living Well in Retirement Challenge
What beautifully evocative post, Jane! I found myself fondly remembering hot summer mornings of my childhood, and helping Dad clean the troughs and check the sheep. Thank you!
Jane S
Thank you Marian, I am pleased to have stirred some memories for you!

Hi Jane…we had 57 beautiful ml of rain here…. Hope you got some to run into the damn…hopefully we will get a bit of green to colour our world to go with the red dirt!
Jane S
Thanks Suze, great to hear from you! No dam rain yet but our paddocks are looking slightly happier!
cityhippyfarmgirl
Look at all your beautiful colours Jane. Love it.
That dam…wow. It's huge!
Jane S
Thank you Brydie, it is a huge dam. It will be even more spectacular when it finally fills!

I am playing catch up on your January posts, jane 🙂 wouldn't it be wonderful if that dam was completely full. and I have to agree with you on colourful clothes. too many people wear all black here in the city – it's deadening and depressing in the summer light, and so dreary in a dull winter. people need to more adventurous. I find colourful socks also make slipping on your work boots a pleasure 🙂 pink or purple work for me!
Jane S
So lovely to hear from you e. I never expect or anticipate people calling into my blog BUT I have honestly missed your thoughtful comments! Wishing you a colourful 2015! x
