The relief of rain

?>

One week ago we were struggling with temperatures above 40°C, dust and dry dams.  Fast forward one week
and we have now received 60mm of rain.  For now, the temperature has dropped and the dust has been washed off the trees, grass, animals and humans alike.  Our dams are yet to fill but we are grateful for damp soil.

Although it might not look like it, this water is part of an intermittent creek system that flows through our property once every few years.  This time the flow is slow, but the novelty of having fresh water meandering through the paddock never wears off.

This sweet little home was blown from a tree during the rain
and I found it, freshly sprinkled with tiny rain drops.

In non-weather related news, I have met another blog friend in real life!  Since my blogging journey began I have only managed to meet a handful of blogging friends face to face.  This week I met Zara who generously gave me one of her handmade, vintage creations.  Over lunch and a coffee we chatted about old buildings, honey, op shops, moving house, bread making, Kitchen Aid attachments, Saltwater sandals and everything in between.  Slowly but surely blogging really does create some amazing connections.

How is life at your place?

Is it raining?

Have you met a new friend?

Wishing you a lovely weekend x

Great photos today! The contrast in that first one is just stunning and capturing a great reflection shot is always tricky – especially with moving objects like kids and animals!

Thank you so much! I wasn't even aware of that reflection until after I had taken the photo!

I just love the way the rain settles the dust and cleans the land. Looks like you got quite a down pour. We've had an unusually cool summer with lots of showers, though we could always do with more. We have a new tank that we want filled up 🙂

Hello Jane, so glad you've received the welcome relief of some rain. I know this is old news for you, but I have been away from social media for a while. Well, my daughter gave me a copy of December's Country Style magazine for Christmas, and when things calmed down and I had a chance to flick through it I started reading the article Home Harvest, and as I got into it I thought, hang on a mo, I know this person! And it was you and your lovely family of course! A great read and my congratulations. Just great! Bye for now, Jane

Happy days when the weather does what you want! I don't think we every have skies quite like the one in your first glorious photo. A good frosty morning here today, though not quite hard enough to drive a tractor on the fields to do some hedgecutting. What's that I heard you say? A farmer not happy with the weather. Surely not. 🙂

how wonderful that you had rain – and a decent drop too. even the dog looks astounded to see wet stuff on the ground! we had an amazing amount of rain almost two weeks ago, but sadly now some of the garden beds are dry again. we can always keep our fingers crossed for more.

We got rain this week after 34 days without. Liquid gold. Your 40 plus temperatures are amazing. Here in NZ anything over 30 is too hot. I met up with a fellow blogger a couple of weeks ago. It was like meeting an old friend, wonderful.

Hi Jane, I stumbled across your blog and realised I had read the article in December Country style (one of my favourite magazines by the way). Love your blog and the fabulous photos, fingers crossed for more rain and hopefully fill your dam. I'm in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, definitely no shortage of rainfall up here.
