Life has been a little upside down lately. A bout of the flu has just passed through our house, leaving me feeling frustrated, house bound and generally unwell. Finally, this weekend good health is starting to return and I am back out enjoying the sunshine. Hallelujah.
Shearing is in full swing and when the mustering crew pull up for smoko in the paddock this is how it rolls. Motorbikes, dogs and the invaluable Savannah.
Lemon and olive oil muffins with a touch of orange zest, because this recipe is always a winner when you have spare citrus.
With some changes and shuffling occurring in our horse
family our horse routine has also changed.
Instead of feeding the horses at random times of the day I have tried to
structure our day so we can take care of this job in the late evenings. At this time of the day it feels like a
welcome break from the house and the horse paddock is calm and quiet as the sun
starts to set.
When
the weather gets too warm for porridge I switch my breakfast routine to
homemade muesli. This batch featured
organic rolled oats, South Australian almonds, local honey, shredded coconut
and the usual seeds. To top it off I am
considering an online order of some good quality dried fruit from Tabletop Grapes. Although they are not local to
us, they are as close as we can get to local.
Not too far from our horse paddock is this patch of yellow
flowers. I am not really sure if they
are wildflowers or weeds but they are very cheerful.
I hope you are healthy and enjoying the sunshine.
Happy Sunday friends x

I can so relate to feeling down and out and frustrated from the flu!
It has just invaded most of my family members…one at a time of course, so if feels like we've had it forever!
I'm still getting over it, and it's so annoying when there is so much to be done, but absolutely no energy to do it with. Glad you are feeling a little better.
I too switch to home made muesli when the seasons change, it's so yummy!

Thanks Cheryl, I love hearing from you!

Thanks for the citrus muffin recipe- perfect for the glut. Busy time for you indeed. Here the sun shines on occasion, inspiring brief mad activity in the gardens- like headless chooks. That weed looks a lot like capeweed to me,
Jane S
It is a great recipe Francesca, I hope you get a chance to try it one of these days!

I'm sorry to hear you've been unwell. It's horrid being housebound with a cold isn't it? I was sick for about 3 weeks this winter and hated not being able to get outside into the garden and around the farm!
Those muffins look delicious. Life is a bit hectic here too this week, I was looking forward to the weekend but it has been completely swallowed up by two work days! Here's hoping I can convert Monday into some kind of Sunday this week 🙂
Hope you have a lovely week,
Sarah x
PS Is that flower capeweed maybe?
Jane S
Thanks Sarah, I always appreciate your comments. It seems that flower is capeweed 🙂

Beautiful Jane, photos say so much.

Jane, I am afraid they are weeds – still pretty though.
Jane S
Thanks Glenda!

sorry to hear lurgies have been lurking Jane. Hopefully they are all banished now and you get on with enjoying spring.
Those flowers are round here as well, they always give a lovely pop of yellow…weeds or not 🙂
Jane S
Thanks Brydie, it is good to know we can both see beauty in these weeds!

those little yellow flowers look so abundant – they must be weeds! glad you are feeling better – sunshine always does the trick.
Jane S
You are right e, they must be weeds!

Glad to hear you're feeling better Jane. Oh those flowers are so cute! They are all over the Botanic Gardens too! A lovely Springy sight! And how good does your homemade muesli look! I must make some! Have a beautiful week xx
Jane S
It seems it is capeweed Sophie! I hope all is good in your world x

When I was little we called those daisies "wet your pants daisies" because my Mum (who didn't like us making daisy chains with them?!) told us that we would wet our pants if we touched them. True.
Sorry you've been crook Jane, but I'm glad you're feeling better x
Jane S
That is bloody funny Kylie, you have the best stories. Didn't our parents make up the craziest stuff? x

Weeds are only plants that are growing in the wrong place – yours look glorious. We're enjoying alternate days of glorious sunshine and downpours (over 20mm in half an hour complete with hailstones last Friday).
Have a happy week.
Jane S
Thanks Anne, that is a great way of looking at the weeds! x

Beautiful photos. Glad everyone's feeling better!
Jane S
Thank you.

Glad to hear you're all feeling much better.
The olive oil muffins look delicious. They may well be the perfect way to use the last of the bottle you gifted me. x
Jane S
It is a good recipe Zara…when are we going to see each other again? Soon I hope 🙂

Hi Jane, good to know that you are all feeling brighter… lovely photos, as always! And those little muffins, yummy! Have a fabulous week xx
Jane S
Thank you Lizzy, so kind of you to call in!

Looks like we have all been on an olive oil baking theme this week!! Those muffins sound delicious – the lemon and orange zest would be much welcome, cheering comfort food after a bout of flu. Very glad to hear you are all feeling much better xx
Jane S
Thanks Mrs M. Good old olive oil!
Michelle
That flu this year has been awful hasn't it, I"m glad you're feeling better. Those daisies are cape weed, my neighbour's house is called Cape Weed Cottage, as they are rather prolific around these parts. They hail from South Africa. xx
Jane S
Cape Weed Cottage sounds lovely Michelle! Thank you for calling in, so nice to hear from you x
