Space and freedom

?>

The male half of our family recently headed out into one of our paddocks for an overnight camping expedition.  Happily, the female half of the family were invited to join them at their campfire for dinner.

That evening, as we packed homemade sausages made from our own sheep and homemade bread it occurred to me that we have an incredible amount of freedom to do the things we love.

We have almost unlimited space to go camping with no admission fees, no campsite rules and not a single soul around us for many miles.

The land belongs to our family, as does the firewood and the uninterrupted views.

The kids found a friendly lizard.

I found a bird nest and a twisty tree that reminded me of a sculpture.

We ate a simple dinner served off the back of the ute washed down with a cold beer.

Sometimes when the earth is dry and the days are hot and dusty I remember the freedom that we have and I know exactly why we live where we live.

I hope you have plenty of space and freedom in your day today x

It's a precious freedom we get to enjoy…… So special and simple plans at no cost are much more precious then big flash adventures……

Thank you Chooky…I know life hasn't been easy for you lately and I appreciate your words. Big flash adventures…they are not always the answer are they? x

It sounds ideal Jane. I can imagine our peaceful and quite it would be. Sometimes I would like to live a little further out of town, as the highway near by seems to get noisier every year. It's still nothing like living in suburbia though 🙂

I'd love one of your homemade sausages!

Very nice! I do love a good camping trip. I also enjoy a great amount of freedom thanks to living in the middle of nowhere.

I love that little twisty tree. Do you cook your sausages on that nifty looking utensil?

As farmers we're very lucky to have so much space and freedom – though our farm is nowhere near as vast as yours and we have public access paths across much of it making much of it far from secluded. On the other hand, it isn't dry and dusty either!

Yes Anne, that nifty utensil (we call it a barbecue) has been with us for years. It is a simple hot plate on legs and the handle is on a thread that screws on and off the hot plate, making it easy to fold up and transport. The handle is very useful when you need to move the whole thing either closer to the fire or away from the heat. A homemade gadget that my husband bought off a man…as you do.

      Thank you x

You do and it is a freedom you don't realise until it is gone or that is what I found. Even though I was out west to do a job there was still so much freedom and flexability in it and so much fun around it. What a beautiful evening that looks like.

I feel much freer and less crowded-in living where I do now than on the outskirts of London where we were before but we have nothing like the space where you are. There aren't many places in the UK where you can feel completely away from it all. Your camping trip sounds idyllic and I love the look of your campfire cooking. That's proper living Jane! Sam x
