Lately…dust then rain

?>

This post has been rolling around in my mind for a while and it was going to be loosely based around the theme of dust.

I was going to write about how every single tank on our property is dry.

I was going to write about how my skin, eyes and hair all feel so dry.  So gritty.

I was going to write about how a little bit of dust has gradually started to feel grubby and every single surface around me feels dirty and impossible to keep clean.

Then, overnight it rained. We were desperate for rain, especially water for tanks.  So far we have measured 31mm and life feels better already.

With water in short supply my vegetable garden is back to basics with just a handful of winter vegetables and some garlic.  In the remaining bare spaces I have planted a green manure crop which I am watering just occasionally.  So far it is looking healthy and this boy, Pirate seems to like it too.

Thank goodness for these two hardy, reliable quince trees.  With not much other food growing in the garden having these quinces feels comforting and reassuring.

School holidays have meant horse riding, almost every morning.

While Annabelle has been riding George and I have been collecting manure and old hay for the garden from the cattle yards nearby.  We all get some exercise and fresh air while the garden also benefits.  A winning combination in my mind.

Is it raining at your place?

Did you plan a post and then things changed?

I hope your Sunday is full of goodness.

It rained yesterday for the first time in almost 80 days…..the last time it rained was the week we were surrounded by bushfires and had arrived back home after evacuating

Friday saw us driving to Mildura in the pouring rain and I didn't complain about it, instead thinking how much you and the other farmers around town needed it.
Driving home yesterday the roadside had that tiny tinge of green to which was lovely.
I hope there's more rain on the way.

It is raining here, quite a bit. My house is also dusty, but as I live in the inner city, I shudder to think what that dust is made up of. It's everywhere 🙁

I heard we got some rain at our place too- it was so dry, the rabbits and kangas had moved into my veggie patch. The cockies too the quinces long ago. I left in disgust and am now in Bali. I am waiting to hear the rain tally. Hope we also got 30ml. Francesca

It's raining here today as well Jane, and It's been quite awhile since we had any proper rain. No comparison to your dry land though. I hope that nice soaking in rain continues for you.

Oh Jane I hope you get more rain. I know the feeling of waiting and waiting and hoping for rain. It's been a dry season in our area too, but not as dry as some other places. Yesterday we drove a 13 hour round trip to collect some more sheep and a ram, trying to build a little flock. Where we went looked like country waiting for the wet season to begin, not like that time of year had passed. It was dusty and brown.
I hope you get more rain soon!

We have had so much rain here in the SE USA that we are begging for it to just stop and let us dry out! Our yard is just mud and it is garden planting time but garden plots are laying in water. Seems everywhere it si none or too much right now.

What beautiful images of life in the country. I'm so glad the rain finally arrived. We are flooding here in Sydney and I wish we could send you a share of this deluge. Your quince trees have certainly produced a lot of fruit. My little guy would have loved to have been at your house these holidays – he is very keen to learn to horse ride xx

we need rain down here too, jane. it is not as dusty as you experience, but everythign is lookign dry – the autumn leaves and dying off summer veg do not help either.

Thanks e, wouldn't it be nice if we could both jump in the ute with our forks and shovels and share this cow manure/hay mix! Then we could share a well earned smoko afterwards! Sending you a virtual ute load of manure and a slice of something sweet once all the hard work is done.

Thank goodness it rained. We've just spent a week away walking and were thankful that we didn't get any rain though each day Bill hoped it would be raining at home just enough to keep things growing. I just can't imagine life at your place where it's do dry.
