Our island home, for a week

?>

We only take a proper holiday once every few years so when we do, I like to put a fair amount of effort into booking accommodation that will hopefully enhance our overall holiday experience.

Character and charm always win over generic, shiny spaces for me.  Although sometimes there is a fine line between charm, character and bare basics. Thanks to the world of Google and a little intuition I discovered Walden on Flinders Island.

Walden was possibly one of the cosiest, character filled yet practical holidays rentals we have ever had the pleasure of relaxing in.

Constructed from a thoughtful mix of recycled building materials with uninterrupted mountain views from the main shower and a beach within strolling distance and we couldn’t have asked for a happier island base.

The memories of drawing, chatting, reading and cooking in this sun filled space will stay with us as a family forever.

What do you look for in holiday accommodation?
Warmth and character or simply five stars?

Happy Sunday, friends x

It looks idyllic Jane. They should book you to do their PR.

So long as I have an amazing location, I just want clean holiday accommodation. Must admit that I've not booked lots of places because they're filled with frilly stuff and knick knacks or their website is pink and patterned.

Oh yes Anne…too many pink, patterned frilly things put me off also. Dusty and musty is not for me! This place truly was a perfect balance of warmth, cleanliness and practicality.

It looks so so lovely. We're going to Tassie for our honeymoon this August so might have to convince hubby-to-be for a stop over 🙂

If you do go Dani, don't rush it, I think that would spoil it! Congratulations on your up coming wedding!

I adore Tasmania. Absolutely love the place. What draws me? Like you warmth and character, natural light, not too much "stuff", no nicknacks please! And you don't know it until you get there but good coffee/tea mugs are a highlight…seriously, they can make or break a good cuppa! 🙂
Instagram is good for researching places beforehand too, it's like the lazy handbook.

Instagram is such a good handbook for so many things isn't it? I used it a lot before our Flinders Island trip, not so much for the accommodation but just to pick up the vibe of the place.

We're a chill Carribean ban and eatery only 20 feet from the sea with cool mixed drinks, custom made pizza and wonderful barkeeps. Here are possibilities for taste the nourishment, pizza, fun, nightlife, drinks, bar, late night, late sustenance, cold beer and burgers.

Your pictures look beautiful, that is surely a place I would like to stay in. I love when a place feels cozy and warm and has character but I am not a fan of shiny tiled floors and kitchen counters. Wood, natural materials and simple decor. Plus pillows, blankets and a big comfy bed 🙂 Being away frm the noise of civilisation helps, too.
