Recently I have contemplated abandoning this site.  Instagram has well and truly taken over as my main way of sharing and for people to contact me.  However, a recent random but lovely conversation with Rees Campbell encouraged me to reconsider.  Rees has just published her latest book which prompted her to update her website.  Her book, Islands of the Island State looks fascinating, while we’re on the subject. 

I have not published a book, but I have decided that a website is sometimes still a useful point of contact.  So, I have updated these neglected pages and had a virtual spring clean.

While I am here I will share a few things that have been happening lately.

Shearing time is always a time of the year I look forward to.  It is the end of a full cycle of wool growing and a fresh start for our Merino sheep, just as the weather is starting to warm up. Although I have seen shearing seasons roll around almost my entire life I am still in awe of the skill, strength and momentum required to shear sheep as a full time career.

We are very lucky in Broken Hill to have at least four bookshops, including a second hand option. Big Sky Stories is a big, bright shop that encourages a love of language and literacy aimed specifically at children.  I recently spent some time with the co-founder Jane Vaughan taking some new branding images for their website and social media. Something quite different to my usual photography subjects.  

At the start of winter my mum, Liz Trabilsie visited us.  Mum helped me with my winter pruning.  Actually, Mum did most of the pruning and I made coffee and tea and provided snacks!  We both started on an impromptu crafting project, weaving nests and baskets with grapevine prunings and other foraged foliage and grass. 

With this in mind, in 2027 mum and I are going to hold a winter weaving workshop, in my garden.  It will be a day of weaving, tasty food and conversation.  It will not be a particularly technical day, more a time to share ideas and good company.  There will be more details to come but if you are interested, please let me know.

The outback is absolutely alive with wildflowers, it is quite spectacular.

I can barely believe that I am raising my summer vegetable seedlings, how can winter possibly be over so quickly.
