Doing the rounds

?>

My life is stretched between a lot of different compartments at the moment.  Sometimes these compartments feel synchronized and other times they don’t.  I struggled to give this post a particular theme or feel and then I realised that lately our life has gone in hundreds of different directions almost daily so how could I possibly string it all together in one neat package.

There are brief early morning moments spent in the vegetable garden noticing the ants feasting on the zucchini flowers.

There has been a hot afternoon spent bringing home a load of old hay and horse manure from the yards to the vegetable garden, complete with two happy car dogs.

There is distance education where in amongst the satellite lessons and spelling tests we get to be creative with flowers and paint out in the fresh air.

At the end of the day we make our living off the land and when the men folk are away working on other properties the kids and I do our best to check cattle, sheep and water tanks.  We may have also been known to take a few photos while we are doing the rounds.

For us October always means back to back horse events.  As a family we have camped under the stars with our own horse and young rider while my husband continually contributes his time and skills to several bush racing committees.

Life is busy and sometimes it gets a bit gritty but I feel fortunate that we are able to do all of these things.  Some people may never get the opportunity.

Is your life neatly packaged at the moment?

Or perhaps you are juggling a few different compartments too?

Riding horses or growing vegetables?

Happy Sunday friends x

A neatly packaged life would be the epitome of boring if you ask me.
But if you look for it you can always find routine and rhythm in the juggling act.
I'd take the latter any day.
    Beautiful photos as always 🙂

Oh how I wish I could answer riding horses and growing veggies but alas I haven't been on a horse in many a year. Maybe one day.
Love the shot of your daughter on one pony!
Is life ever neatly packaged? I don't think so; it can make blogging tricky at times! At the moment we are in the business of spring/dryness on the farm, and then there is the usual baking/housework/ect. plus I'm busy designing knitting patterns too 🙂

Hope you've had a lovely weekend,

I wonder if the ants help pollinate your zucchinis. That would be helpful! Life is all over the place here, too, but the children have next week off school, the sun is shining today and we've gained an extra hour because the clocks went back last night. I'm planning to do lots of gardening. My daughter used to go horse riding but stopped because it was too expensive (it's at least £25 per lesson which soon mounts up). It's a shame because she does love it. The photo of your daughter on her pony made me smile. Sam x

Thanks Sam, horse riding, horses and equipment can get very expensive! It is lucky that my mother in law supplies us with most of our 'materials' and we have miles of room to let horses roam free when they are not being ridden x

Beautiful photos Jane. Juggling must be good I think ….seems it never ever really changes, you just get to juggle different things and we survive it all.

I love this thought provoking post and your readers' comments, jane.
I had a four-day long weekend, and had a perfect blend of super busy in the garden and kitchen (though somehow managed to ignore the vacuuming) and also sitting around in the sunshine in my garden drinking tea, eating ice cream and reading gardening magazines. sometimes I feel like I should be doing more, but … having been a bit over-stretched myself recently, I needed this lazy time!

Your pictures are gorgeous as always Jane.

We have a lot of ants this year too.

My life is never neatly packaged, some times I dream what it would be like if it was but then realise that I love it just the way it is.

No riding horses for us, but plenty of vegetable growing.

    Happy Monday… xx

It's been far too long since I rode horses – funny how things slip away until you no longer miss them – and our veg growing is in winter mode, which means pulling a few leeks and digging artichokes but mostly tidying up. Never a neatly packaged life, thank goodness, but at its heart is family and farming, around which everything else revolves. Similar to yours but with a very different backdrop!

It is amazing how our lives have similar rhythms Anne, with very different backdrops. Farming is universal it seems.

Neatly packaged? Oh hell no. Not in the slightest. Although it might feel so periodically for seconds at a time, just when that last hit of coffee hits your belly and the caffeine starts to do it's thing, yep then. That's when everything feels as it should be, aside from that….shazaam!

Hope your week has been a good one so far Jane, and also hope those cinnamon buns work well! xx

The cake was very light, but also very moist. It was almost like a chiffon cake, with that contrast of rich flavor and light texture.

I have seen guys on first dates sitting across from me or at a table nearby talking like that just had a gag removed from their mouth after having it on for three days. Gentlemen, this is so foolish. The first date is so important to you, don’t blow it by talking.

it belongs to us. Men and young men, here is the beginning of a series of Rules we need to know to have long term relationships with women. This volume is not complete, I really don't think 50 books would be enough but this volume is a start. If you are wanting or in a relationship with a woman, these rules will help you maintain that relationship and keep you in the P. O. P. The following as an example is Rule Number 7. DATING, IT’S NOT A TIME TO TALK.
