Candles and welcome rain

?>

I celebrated a birthday this week, complete with the yummiest little cake assembled by my family.

Small, thoughtful birthday gifts are the best.  Wooden stamps, a piece of muslin cloth for cooking and a precious card designed by this talented artist.

Thyme potted up in an old canister that I have had packed away for years.

75mm of rain has fallen on our property since the end of March and suddenly both our paddocks and our outlook feels healthier and happier.

My dependable little lime tree.  Very soon I am going to try to this Lemon Crème Bar recipe from the Lunch Lady using limes instead of lemons.

The school holidays are almost upon us.  One little Easter hat parade to contend with and we will be home for two weeks of digging in the vegetable garden, lighting our wood oven and enjoying some chocolate here and there.

Can you almost feel the school holidays?

Are you enjoying autumn?

Have a lovely weekend friends.

happy birthday jane, and what a great birthday present – the rain!
i am also squealing with delight because i'm sure my mother has a blue and green version of your tin cannister – but i adore yours more! (if ever you tire of its cheery colour and gorgeous mid-century design, please let me know… 😉
we have had rain over night and more today, so it is great for us gardeners in the suburbs too. more please.
    happiest birthday wishes jane XX

Thank you e. Isn't it funny, I have some other canisters which live alongside this one but the other ones have a daisy design. I cannot even remember where they came from. Now I think they are quite lovely but I have overlooked them for years. Just goes to show that my tastes have changed over time 🙂

I'm so glad you've finally gotten some good rain Jane! And happy birthday 🙂
We've spent the morning putting thick beds of hay into animal sheds and locking up the poultry in prep for the cyclone 🙂

Hope you have a good day xx

Thanks Jane – we were lucky and Ita only came through as a 1 – we got a decent amount of rain without getting flooded which was really good 🙂

    Happy birthday Jane!
It is going to be 35 degrees here in Perth today(!), we haven't had more than a tiny sprinkling of rain for months. I am getting desperate – and my livelihood doesn't depend on it like yours does!
Just like e/dig above, my Mum had that canister – it's gorgeous.
    Take care x

Happy birthday. The cake looks like a lot of love went into it. And enjoy the rain. We are heading into winter here in Southland NZ so rain will become a near daily event. Not to rub it in or anything. :-).

Happy birthday Jane! It is mine next week. The rain has been wonderful here too. We had to buy water for the first time about a week before the rain started. We now have heaps in our tank, thankfully, and a full dam. It feels good. xxoo

I was just thinking that I wanted to make some lemon bars – they always feel Eastery to me for some reason – but only have some limes, not lemons. I thought I'd use them instead, so maybe I'll have to check out your recipe. The little wooden stamps are adorable!

happy birthday Jane. Some welcome rain – always a good photo. Your wooden stamps look good – expecting to see lots of stamped goodies in future posts. What a thoughtful present.
We're just enjoying the warm spring days and watching everything spring to life. At last, it's better to be outside than inside and spend time away from the office and computer.
