Baking, growing and collecting

?>

This week I decided to start each day with something creative.  Things that make me happy. Moments that don’t always fit in to daily life around the usual routines and commitments.  Something other than arguing about healthy breakfast options, hair brushing and listening to the news from America.

On Monday I headed out into the darkness with my camera chasing shadows, reflections, contrasts and the first rays of morning light.

On Tuesday I baked sourdough focaccia.  Some for now and some for the freezer.

On Wednesday I harvested and watered in the vegetable garden before we hosted a rural fire service training day.

On Thursday we headed to town for school supplies, groceries
and haircuts.  Our town days always start
with coffee; there is simply no negotiation on this.  Seeing the friendly faces of our favourite baristas sets the day up perfectly.

My mother in law recently gifted me this little collection of well aged enamel.  I am working on planting cactus and succulents in them for a low maintenance display, maybe in our house. I feel like our house could do with some inside greenery.

Did you listen in to Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown on Australia Day?  The song that come in at #3 is one of my favourites at the moment.

In between all of this I have also been reading the book from Grown and Gathered.  If you love growing and making food and are mindful of where your food comes from you will love this book.  I feel inspired every time I pick it up.

Are you taking photos or harvesting or making or listening?

Do you find tiny creative moments that fit in around the busyness of family life?

Happy Sunday, friends.

Gah! One week into two years of study and I am wondering if I'll ever properly find these moments once I am well into it. I am resisting the urge to run from the whole idea of a MBA.

It must be in the air Jane. I have welcomed some indoor plants into the fold last week. If time spent outdoors helps to reboot and calm then surely a little greenery inside won't hurt?
Good luck this week with lunchboxes and the endless paper trail…xxx

I love your flask skyscraper! I found this a very soothing post and a reminder that being creative can be as simple as taking five minutes to appreciate something as simple as a cup of coffee.

Currently taking a creative moment to make bread, attempting to cure a rabbit skin and transporting myself to warmer climes by reading blogs.

Hope you've had a relaxing and creative Sunday, Jane.

Good luck with the rabbit skin Anne…what will you do with it once it is cured? I am curious. I love that you noticed my flask skyscraper, I hadn't thought of it that way until you pointed it out.

I think it's so important to start the day with something that makes us happy – it sets the whole day up right, and if things go wrong later on I find I can cope better when I had a good start to the morning 🙂 That second image is just breathtaking Jane! Well worth the early morning light chasing 😉

You're the second person that has recommended Grown and Gathered this week, I really must see if I can find a copy to flick through. It does look like a beautiful book.

I'm all for more greenery in a house! It freshens the whole thing up wonderfully.

I hope you have a great week,
    Sarah x

Thank you fellow light chaser! You would like Grown and Gathered Sarah…think sourdough pasta and lots of oaty/wheaty/whole grainy things that you are far more familiar with than I am! Also, great practical tips on growing food and embracing a food community x

I love your sunrise shots, Jane. Just gorgeous. Trips into town always start with coffee here too 🙂 I think taking time to be creative in any way reaps rewards in our wellbeing. Have a good week. Sam x

Lovely pics and the sourdough focaccia looks great, I did a sourdough course on Saturday and can't wait to get into making my own bread, we made sourdough pancakes with poached bloodplums and a mascarpone & yoghurt cream for breakfast on Sunday, (they served this at the course and we copied at home) scrumptious …will have to grab a copy of matt & lentils book it looks lovely.

My children love the Great Zucchini Glut because it means lots of moist chocolate zucchini cake.
