When technology disappears, for a while

?>

Hello friends, it has been a while.  We have been without a serious computer for the last week or so which in some ways has simplified life.  However, eventually there are always bills to pay, emails to respond to and online business to take care of.  So, we sent our incredibly dusty and apparently malware infested hard drive off to a reliable backyard computer wizard in town and hoped that one day it would return, intact.

I have missed plugging my camera in and looking over my photos and I have really missed blogging. Not necessarily my own blog but all the blogs I like to keep up with.  For a while it felt like some of my friends were missing from my life. Thankfully, I know a few dedicated bloggers and I know you are all still out there.

While that dusty old hard drive left a gaping hole under our desk, life went only fairly normally.  In our world there are a few things that still operate without passwords, sms security codes or dreaded malware infections.

Kids, cattle and horses.  Of course, kids love technology but they also manage quite well without it, amazingly!

Bread, there is always bread.

My snake beans have been so productive but when I harvest them it is always a battle between the ants and I.

The eggplants are also prolific, as are the weeds when I inspect this photo more closely.

This giant sunflower reached for the sky and produced a plate sized flower.  Now is has bowed its weighty head as the seeds start to dry off.

Dill flowers have lived happily tangled under my quince trees all through the summer and they just make me smile.

Autumn is on the horizon and so are the quinces.

Perhaps some cooking might be on your horizon?  In the latest issue of Graziher you will find some of my autumn cooking creations including quince scrolls.

Blogging forces me to collate my thoughts as well as my photos and it feels good to be back.

Are you growing, baking or perhaps taking off after a mob of cattle on your trusty horse?

Wishing you a weekend full of the good things.

New theme? It's funny how weeds suddenly appear in photos when there was apparently no sign of them in real life.
I'm baking for weekend printmaking classes and helping to clear a couple of trees that got blow down in the high winds yesterday.
    Have a good weekend.

Hello Anne. I hope you manage to grab a few photos from your printmaking class and the chocolate crackle biscuits are appreciated! If you mean my blog theme is new…I have had it for a while. Thanks for calling in as always.

Ahhh I wrote a post so similar to this one several years ago. There's such a push me pull you feeling towards computers going on in my brain. Ours were gone for a few weeks and the isolation felt sublime. But then like you I missed it and was happy to be back. Your photos are gorgeous as usual and I'm always happy to see a post from you pop up in my feed. xx

Finding a balance between Real Life and technology is the modern-day challenge for all of us, isn't it? Sometimes it's good to have a complete break from it. It must be brilliant to have a task that you can all join in with, like moving cattle on your horses – this is so different to our life! It looks fantastic and I imagine it's a very bonding experience to have with your children. I love the photos of your place moving gently towards autumn and the contrast with our place waking up ready for spring. Gorgeous post, as always, Jane. Sam x

You are such an observant and thoughtful reader Sam. Yes, the shift in seasons is subtle but it is slowing moving. I am sure you are looking forward to the warmer spring days, especially for your garden.

It is nice to be without computers for a while isn't it Jane even though at the same time it can be inconvenient. The dilemma of communication. Your sourdough looks so good & the garden looks to have survived our dreadful hot spell. Hope you are enjoying the weekend . x Cheers Paula

I even love the word quince. And how gorgeous is the smell of brushing past fading dill and dill seed heads? I spent 10mins this evening, fighting a mossie plague, and plucking nasty ladybirds off my eggplant leaves. The eggplants here have been prolific too and I am going to make up a decadent Sir Lankan eggplant curry on Sunday.

Blogging is a good way to straighten out those thoughts isn't it.
Hope all your tech stuff is as it should be again Jane.
